Credit companies expand online resources

Often, consumers are bombarded with television ads promising free credit reports or offers from banks and credit card companies for identity theft protection.

To help cut through this blizzard of claims, and help consumers avoid spending money on credit reports when they dont need to, consumer groups and credit reporting companies have created online resources with information on credit reports.

The most recent example is geared toward Spanish speakers. Hispanic America Saves, Consumer Federation of America and VantageScore Solutions, LLC, last week announced the launch of www.CreditScoreQuiz.org/espanol, a website and brochure on credit scores translated into Spanish. Both...

New credit check law good for all

Updated at 9:12 am on 7 February 2012

The new law comes into effect on 13 February and means those with overdue fines or reparation could be declined credit.

Veda managing director John Robertson, says the change should promote the prompt payment of fines.

He says people who owe money tend to owe it to more than one place, which is a signal to lenders about their credit risk.

It isn’t just the Goverment that has problems dealing with money. Town …

It seems that it’s not only our Government that has a problem when it comes to dealing with money, apparently our town councils aren’t that great with it either.

The Irish Independent reports that a host of town councils are ignoring warnings from the Government to cut their costs and stop borrowing from the banks. The newspaper says that most town councils now have to rely on overdrafts and loans in order to meet daily expenses.

The funny thing is that three years ago, local authorities were ordered by the Government to reduce their costs and to not borrow any more money. Clearly they didn’t listen.

While councils themselves are owed more than EUR500million...
